Welcome to the GPD
In Victorian England, penny dreadfuls were serial stories published in weekly pamphlets. They cost only a penny and were aimed to the younger working class. The stories generally focused on sensationalized exploits of detectives, criminals, or the supernatural. Penny dreadfuls were the inspiration for the idea and the name of this site.
The Green Penny Dreadful was started by Penelope Greenings in 2021 as an imprint for publishing her own books. Drawing from the inspiration of penny dreadfuls, as well as their modern equivalent; television series, she wanted to pre-release her books on a weekly basis. She also wanted to be able to give her readers more than just the story. Her goal was to merge the beauty of literature with today’s modern, immersive world.
Her books are pre-released weekly, chapter by chapter, on their own dedicated site. After the chapter is released, it will be readily available at any time. So, you can read along each week, or wait to read multiple chapters at a time.
Along with the story, bonus content is also uploaded on the book’s website.
Once every chapter is posted, the print book will be available for purchase in hardcover, paperback, and ebook.
